We decided we wanted to have a motto for our family this year! I guess most people choose a word for the year, but we’ve chosen a phrase. We’ve been thinking about it for several days and finally nailed it down. I ordered this “Work Hard & Be Nice” print from Minted for my office (or should I say, wall in a room that is more a playroom than an office, but will be my future workspace) and when it showed up over the weekend, Brett was like, “that’s it! that’s our family motto!”
He takes the boys to school several mornings a week so I can go to the gym (bless him!) and he told me when he drops them off he tells them both to “Work hard and be nice.” It’s his thing. And now it’s our thing!
And we wanted to add “choose happy” to that too. We want our boys to know that happiness is a choice and how better to learn than to have Brett and I setting the example. Be Nice, Work Hard, and Choose Happy. I think I need to have it printed and hang it up somewhere we can see it every day! If we can remember those three things I think 2016 will be pretty great for us!
As far as a few other things we’re working on for the year….
For myself- I plan to be more organized with my blog so I can have a better work/life balance. Drink more water than diet coke ????, take time for personal study/reading every day, get more sleep, and I’m still on the fence about running a half marathon? Who will do one with me?!!!
Owen- run faster and get a six pack (from his very own mouth).
Miles- expand his diet to include ANYTHING other than cheese flavored processed snacks. #wishiwaskidding
Graham- just stop growing. pleeeaaase!
And for Brett- I jokingly told him his goal should be to take me on more dates in 2016 than he did on 2015 (you know, the kind HE plans). He’s sticking with it! Can’t wait 🙂
