All three of my boys have different types of hair. Owen’s is thick and coarse with some gnarly callicks. Miles is thin and fine (just like his mamas). And Graham’s is fine, but curly. {It’s borderline out of control but I’m not ready to cut those locks quite yet….I’ve always wanted a baby with curls!!}
It’s probably a good thing I don’t have girls because I can hardly get these hoodlems ready in the morning. I can’t imagine trying to do ponies and buns, or braids and twisty-things. They may wear comfy shorts and tees every day but I at least try to do their hair every morning.
I bath my boys at night so by morning, we’re dealing with some awesome bed head, kinks, and stubborn callicks. So here are my best tips for getting their hair done quickly in the mornings, using some of my favorite kid-friendly products.
Tame it.
To tame the awesome bed-head I like to use a detangler on their hair. Yep, it’s not just for girls!! I just spray it all over their hair (a little extra on the problem areas) and then comb it. A few I love to use on the boys hair are….
Galivin & Galvin Detangler | Fresh Monster Detangler {toxin free}| Suave Apple Detangler
and they all smell really good!
***TIP–WARM water also works wonders on wild bent hairs and callicks. Just splash warm water on the problem areas, rub the hair around (kind of massaging the kind out!) Then comb the hair how you’d like it to lay. But the water has to be warm!!
Style It.
Once I’ve got the hair tamed I shape or style it with a little balm. I love this Hip Peas Hair Balm for kids. Brett has been using Surf Head for years so I use it on the boys all the time. I rub a little balm on the spots that tend to pop up during the day too to help them stay down.
For my curly-haired boy I’m loving this California Baby Jelly Mousse (also found at Target!) I just give his hair a mist of the detangler before using it–his curls turn into a knappy mess when he sleeps ๐ I use it right after the bath at night too. It smells good + just gives his curls a little shape and control ๐
Hold it.
This Swingin’ Coconut is my favorite because it smells amazing and doesn’t make them feel all sticky. My kids really don’t like the way hair spray “feels” on them but they don’t mind this one! It has been hard to find so I just order it from amazon.
What are your quick tips for doing your little dudes’ hair in the morning??! Any products you love that I need to know about?!

Great post! I’ll have to try the warm water trick for sure. I use got2be glued for my kids but sometimes it can get crunchy which I don’t like…might be my fault though. I’ll have to try some of these other products! Cruz’s hair is long and he gets it pretty crazy…not much holds it :/ your boys look so so handsome!!!

We just use a spray bottle on Mac’s hair, which looks cute for about 2 seconds but then just goes back to his flat, straight hair. He hates the hair spray feel too, so I’m excited to try out some of these.
