Confession: I ate cake twice today and ate way too many cookies to count.
I’m pretty sure it was the low-calorie kind of cake, and the zero-calorie kind of cookies. Yes, in fact I know it was.
But who keeps track on their birthday anyway?
Owen and I shared a piece of chocolate cake this afternoon. He went straight for the frosting, then ditched the rest of it on the floor. Who’s kid is this anyway? Oh wait, that’s right. Mine.
Then some friends brought over this bag of goodies. Homemade Red Velvet Oreos. Thank you Rachel and Todd.
I mentioned to Brett I wanted a Red Velvet Birthday cake this year, but after eating a stack of these, I figured I’d let him off the hook.
Besides, he’s been putting in extra hours and traveling a lot for work lately, so I wasn’t surprised when he said “Your birthday kind of snuck up on me this year.” He’s getting better at keeping secrets and telling little fibs.
Low and behold, the Red Velvet Birthday Bundt Cake. A Red Velvet Nothing Bundt Cake to be precise.
And you don’t say no to a Nothing Bundt Cake . You just don’t. So I didn’t.
Brett even had a few other surprises. I love the oh-so-manly wrapping job. That red and purple, striped tissue paper goes so well with the blue, polka dot bag…and looks awfully familiar (thanks again Rachel)!
