Grahammy is in a big boy bed! We transferred each of the other boys from cribs to big boy beds right around 18 months too, for no other reason than a friend told me her kids always transferred better earlier. We tried it with Owen, and it worked really well. So we’ve continued with each of the boys and now it’s Graham’s turn! He’s 20 months old. Can’t even believe it. I hesitated a little to make the transition now because I just don’t want him to grow up. But we did it.
The first couple of days in our new house we didn’t have Graham’s bed set up, so we we threw his crib mattress on the floor with and our new Dock A Tot Grande from The Baby Cubby on top. It’s like a giant cozy pillow/mattress/mini bed that you can take with you anywhere (well, probably not on a plane but it will be going with us on road trips and hotels)! We thought it could be really helpful in making the transition to his new bed + just great to have for traveling or to place on the floor next to our bed when company comes. Because he gets kicked out of his room and gets to sleep in a pack-n-play (which he really, really dislikes).
It has a soft pillowy edge that keeps him cozied in and less likely to roll off his bed. His toddler bed has the additional rail for safety, but for those beds without it, that soft edge is so nice!
Graham’s bed is all set up now, and so far the transition has been pretty seamless. Definitely not perfect, he’s smart and knows exactly what’s up….like, “hey I can get out. On my own.” But just like when he would cry in his crib and we were sleep training, we go in, lay him back down, and leave. And do it repeatedly until he stops crying and falls asleep. That’s always been the best method for us. {And to be honest, Brett has to be the one to do it because I just crumble and wanna go in and hold him and rock him to sleep}. But consistency is key! We try to keep everything else about bed time and his bed time routine the same. There’s nothing unique about our bed time routine either- just the usual bath, lotion, brush, books, prayers, bed.
He’s so messy these days, I sure do love him squeaky clean. Did you guys see my snap the other day of him putting a toy car in the toilet?? The kid needs multiple baths a day these days. We love using Tubby Todd bath soap and moisturizer.
And brushing his teeth- well, sometimes he cooperates and others it’s a little more difficult. I get in there and brush as good as I can as fast I can, then give him the toothbrush with some paste to let him do it all on his own too.
If you haven’t visited The Baby Cubby online store yet, you have to! It’s an online store with the best and safest baby products. They also have a store in Utah and host some really fun events for parents! You can find the Dock A Tot we are using, some of Graham’s favorite Baby Lit Books, our favorite Tubby Todd bath soaps (all a part of our bed time routine). Plus they have an awesome selection of diaper bags (this one is my current favorite), strollers, feeding items, toys. Seriously everything!
Just the other day my sister-in-law was asking me for gift ideas for a baby boy and I sent her right to The Baby Cubby. The best part is they price match! Even with Amazon. And offer free shipping nationwide on orders over $49. If you don’t know where to start or are shopping for a friend, shop their Cubby Picks!
He just started putting his stuffies to bed before we put him to bed. Monkey see monkey do?
Hopefully the transition continues to go smoothly. Fingers crossed! I snuck into his room last night to spy on him. I like watching all of my boys sleep, it always reminds me just how sweet they really are. And see how cozy the Dock A Tot is? I’m so glad we have it. We are traveling in a couple of weeks and hopefully hotel sleeping will go just as smoothly when we bring it along.
Also worth noting- I’m living in these pure body modal joggers and they’re only $25 right now!
