Next time you make a green smoothie, pretty pretty pretty please throw an avocado in it.
You’ll get the creamiest green smoothie ever. And you’ll love it. It might sound a little weird but it’s surprisingly really good–you can’t even taste the avocado. It’s simply there to add a thick and creamy texture. And nutritious fat:)
We are on a green smoothie kick lately (because I can actually get my kid to drink them) and we’ve been trying some different variations of fruits and veggies in them. This Blueberry Avoado Green Smoothie is definitely a favorite!
All you need is fresh blueberries, an avocado, banana (oops, not pictured), spinach, water and ice. And a little agave nectar to sweeten it up a bit. So simple and good.
Happy Monday to ya!
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 banana
- 1/2 ripe avocado, pitted and sliced
- 2 heaping cups spinach
- 1 tbsp agave
- 1 cup ice
- Place everything in a blender and blend until creamy and smooth. Serve and enjoy!
- If you use frozen blueberries you do not need to add ice

As I sit here sipping my blueberry/spinach/banana smoothie – I am wishing I aded avocado to it. This is perfect Kristy! And right up my alley 🙂
Kristy says
Even without the avocado, blueberry, spinach, banana is my favorite combo…but you MUST add avocado!! So yummy!

I love avocados like nobody’s business – but I haven’t tried it in smoothies! Have you frozen your avocado and blended it in? I like my smoothies REALLY thick and I was wondering if that would make it thicker … I assume do? Anyway, looks delicious! Blueberries are a favorite as well. Big favorite:)

I freeze my avocados to be used on smoothies. However I defrost it a bit before blending. I use an immersion blender and find it’s easier on the little blades if I do that. 25 sec in the micro does the trick.

Such a good idea Caroline!!

I am all over this! I love avocado in, well, everything. 🙂

I keep meaning to buy agave, but just forgot every time. Can I use honey instead? Or what would be a good substitute?
Kristy says
Yes you can absolutely use honey!!

Wow, looks yum!

I’m confused. Is there is or is there not a banana in this smoothie? You said up top that it was left out of the picture, but it’s not in the list either. I think you was just checking to see if we are paying attention! 🙂
Kristy says
You are right, I left it out of the recipe!! Thanks for catching this!!
Kristy says
I went back and added it!

Will have to try this on my avacado hating child, who is suppose to eat them for healthy weight gain. He loves smoothies and blueberries. How much flavor comes from the spinach? I trying to overcome a childhood aversion to it. When its in most foods I literally choke when eating if I taste it.
Jade says
I tried this, and you really don’t get any flavor from the spinach. I loved it, but next time I make this I may lessen the water slightly and add a little more banana (half of a medium one perhaps) to add a little more banana-flavor but I love it already!

How many servings does this make? My husband and I use the oster myblend personal blender which is 20 oz per bottle. Wondering if I’ll need to alter the ingredient portions. Thanks in advance because this sounds so delish. I was actually trying to come up with a natural protein smoothie and I thought about blending up a mixture of white beans, chia seeds, banana, almond milk, almond butter or peanut butter, avocado, & agave or honey if needed. I know it may seem like a lot of ingredients but its fully packed with lots of protein which I need as a post-workout/breakfast smoothie after my morning workout with the lovely insanity workout program. Lol workout workout workout! Guess I can’t say it enough in one sentence. Look at me rambling, but I’d really like to know the serving amount and don’t hesitate to give your opinion on the protein smoothie I’m concocting.
Cathy DR says
Oh and I forgot blueberries are also included in the protein smoothie concoction.

This is so delicious!!!! Even my kids love it 🙂

How many servings does this yield?? I know this has already been asked but I don’t think anyone answered… 🙂
Kristy says
I updated the servings in the recipe! Makes 2 servings!
raina rogers says
How many calories are in each serving?
Jason says
Hi, isn’t a whole avocado a little too much in one sitting?
Jennifer says
The smoothie is SO yummy. The only thing I did different was freeze the blueberries and omit the ice. Oh and honey instead of agave. What a treat!
Conner says
I think I added 1 too many blue berries as mine came out purpleish blue instead of green 😀 None the less, it tastes great!
