Teaching and giving our boys the opportunity and experiences to serve and help others is something that’s really important to us, especially this time of year! And this year we are so excited to participate in our church’s Holiday Campaign #LightTheWorld in 25 ways, over 25 days! Starting December 1st and leading up to December 25th we are prompted with different ideas on how to spread the light of Christ in service and kindness this Christmas season.
If you want to participate you can download the advent calendar here! You can do one of the suggested ideas or create your own, the purpose is simply to serve + share the light of Christ with others! One of the prompts on the calendar is to give a simple gift to your mail carrier–the boys were all over it!
I took Miles and Graham to Target (O was in school) and let them pick a few items they thought our mailman would enjoy. We got distracted in the toy section for a solid thirty minutes, but eventually made it out with a bundle of treats for him to enjoy! I sure hope he likes Oreos and goldfish because the boys insisted! I threw in a few of my favorite things too 😉
It’s always really hard for kids to buy things for someone else….they usually want it too. Like, the Oreos! Hopefully over the next month the boys will be able to see how doing something kind for someone can make them feel really good + happy too!
This really is the most magical time of year! A time to reflect on what matters most, to try and be better, do better, and be more like our Savior. To slow down, enjoy the little moments with our own families and to look for opportunities to help others. The distractions are there and it can be hard to focus on what’s best + most important, but hopefully with a daily reminder we can make it a priority to do something simple for someone else over the 25 days leading up to Christmas!
Let’s #LightTheWorld !!!!
