We are over half way through the school year and I’ve been packing a lunch for Owen every single day. I’ll go ahead and pat my own back for that ๐ It’s just one more the thing on the ever-growing mom list of things to do for your kids every day. Can’t wait until he starts packing his own lunch, haha.
We started using the Rover Planetbox lunchbox several months ago and it has completely changed the kind of lunches I send Owen to school with and make for myself and the other two And lunches he actually eats. And it makes packing healthy lunches SO much easier!
I know, healthy kind of means something different for everyone, but for us it’s about making improvements, including proteins, more fruits and veggies, and swapping out some of the junk with what I like to call better-for-you snacks and treats. I’m sharing just a few of O’s favorite lunches we’ve been making in the Rover lunchbox {plus some of our favorite snacks too!}
Lunch #1:
Slices of cooked Chicken or Turkey Keilbasa Sausage + greek yogurt + strawberries slices and Annie’s Homegrown Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites. The Rover lunchbox comes with one Big Dipper and one Little Dipper aluminum container. The Big Dipper is the perfect size for yogurt!
Lunch #2:
Turkey cheese roll ups + carrot sticks, hummus (in the Little Dipper) + Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Schoolbox Cookies.
Lunch #3:
Turkey & cheese sandwich on whole grain bread (no crust!) + clementine + half banana + Cliff Kid Iced Oatmeal Z Bar
I snapped a pic of some of those “better-for-you” snacks and treats we love. I always include a fruit or veggie (or both) in O’s lunch, but like to let him have a snack or treat he enjoys too.
Snacks and treats we love:
Annie’s Homegrown snacks (I we really love their cookie bites ๐ )
Lundberg Organic Cinnamon Toast Rice Cakes
Late July Organic Chips (the ranch flavor are so good!)
Kashi 7 Grain Pita Chips with Sea Salt
Cliff Kid Z Bars, ZFruit, and ZFruit + Veggie
Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Schoolbox Cookies
I just love how the Rover Planetbox makes it so easy to pack a variety of foods (just a little smaller serving sizes). I love giving Owen several options for his lunch. It’s perfect for adults too and I love using it to pack myself a lunch when I’m going to be out all day or on an outing with the boys.
Planetbox also just came out with the new Jetpack backpack, perfect for carrying your Planetbox lunchboxes anywhere you go. It’s actually really big and recommended for kids over 8! Owen of course insists on taking it to school even though it’s half the size of him. But it’s actually a perfect day backpack for me to carry around while out with the littles or traveling!

These boxes are such a great idea! I remember eating Lunchables when I was little. They looked kinda like this, but were WAY unhealthy. These are such a wonderful alternative.
