My little guy cut his first two teeth just over a week ago. Some babies are champs with teething, but mine, not so much. Miles was constantly gnawing on his hands {or anything he could get is mouth on, including me}, he was cranky, refused to nap, got sick, and just wasn’t his sweet, happy self until those suckers popped through.
The great thing about making these yourself is you know exactly what goes in them and what your baby is consuming. And these biscuits are made of rice cereal, wheat flour, a banana, coconut oil, water and cinnamon. That’s it!
- 1 cup infant rice cereal
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 mashed banana
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 4-8 tbsp water
- Preheat oven to 425.
- Mix everything together in a medium sized bowl, starting with 4 tbsp of water and adding more if necessary. Mix well until a dough forms (I used my hands). Roll out on a floured surface until about 1/4"-1/2" thick. Cut out shapes using cookie cutter or cut into squares. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment and bake for 15 minutes.
- Let cool completely. Store in air-tight container. These can also be stored in the freezer.
- **supervise child closely while eating these, they should get soggy and goopy but I am not guaranteeing your child won't bite of big chunks.

This is perfect!!! I actually did a post on how I was having trouble finding teething biscuits that weren’t made in China. You mean, I can make it at home? Awesome. Thanks for the great recipe! http://chocolateandcarrots.com/crackersandcarrots/2013/01/teething

Yay! I just had my second baby 6 weeks ago, and have been on the hunt already for healthy baby food recipes. Love this!
Muncher Cruncher says
He could not be ANY cuter!! I hope life is going well for you cute thing!! xoxoxo
Marina D says
This is the cutest thing EVER! I almost want to have another baby just so I can make these. sniff sniff.
Mykala says
Can I use home made brown rice cereal instead of the processed store junk?
Kristy says
absolutely! great idea:)
Brianna says
What a great recipe! thank you!! Should they be golden and hard like an actual biscuit when done?
Kristy says
They will be hard and they will be darker in color than an actual biscuit (like a pillsbury biscuit?). The color in the picture is pretty accurate!
Brianna says
Also, how long can they be kept in an airtight container? And from your experience once they nibble on a certain piece should that piece be thrown out right after due to bacteria? Wasn’t sure about this…
Kristy says
A few days in the fridge, but you can freeze them for 3-4 weeks.
Louise says
Just a quick note to say thanks for the post – made these for my 8 month old (with my 3 yr old) yestereday (so got an activity out of it as well) – went over well with both of them. Actually, my 3 yr old is eating an awful lot of them – but I figure it doesn’t really do any harm. Thanks for this – we’ll make them again 🙂
Kristy says
Awesome! I’m so glad your kiddos liked them!!
Alice (@mumsmakelists) says
Oh these look brilliant!
I would love for you to link up at the Friday Baby Shower – the link party for all things pregnancy and new baby. We have a special focus on teething this week. Alice @ Mums Make Lists

I know there’s a lot of mixed emotions when it comes to giving babies wheat, and my baby is only 6 months old so I wanted to wait just a little longer. Do you think these would turn out if I just replace the flour with more of the baby cereal?
Kristy says
Ooh I have no idea, but you could just use regular flour!!
Bobbiann says
Thanks for the recipe; the cookies look great, and so does the baby! BTW, just want to point out that regular flour is wheat. Whole wheat flour is what a lot of people mean when they say “wheat.”
sarah says
Perhaps she means you can use almond flour because regular flour is made from wheat too 🙂
Sarah says
I want to save this recipe for when my daughter starts teething, but I’m allergic to coconuts and I’m really not sure I want to give them to her. Is there a different type of oil I could use to make these?
(Your little man is adorable, btw!)
sarah says
Im sure butter would work just fine 🙂
Brooklyn says
I cannot wait to try these! Thank you so much for pinning! I have been looking for something like this! visiting from cookandcraftmecrazy. I love your blog! Thanks again! xo-Brooklyn
Shannon says
Sunflower oil and avocado oil would be great substitutes! And you can’t go wrong with classic Extra Virgin olive oil
Sarah says
Freezing them would be a good idea to make them harder and cold, we all know they love to chew on cold things.
stephanie says
Can i substitute the rice cereal for something else? maybe oat flour?
Kristy says
I would think so!
Brie Hawkins says
Hi, I was wondering if you’d mind if I shared this recipe on my blog as well! It’s great, came to me highly recommended. I have a 4 month old who is just starting to teethe, so these will come in handy very soon I think!
Jasmine says
Hello there!
I love this idea and I actually tried to make them, but my dough turned out to be really sticky. Do you have any idea what I did wrong? I followed the recipe just like explained, the only thing I changed was the oil. I used Virgin OLive Oil since I didn’t have Coconut Oil. Thanks, looking forward to your reply!
Kelly says
I found the dough to be quite sticky so I pipped mine into rings. They are in the oven and smell great! Finally, a recipe where it’s OKAY to let them be hard as rocks! Thanks for sharing!
amanda says
I keep getting air pockets in my biscuits. Are they safe to give to baby or should I keep trying to make them. I am new at baking.
Uzma says
At what age can I start giving these to my baby? He is almost 6 months old and teething like crazy!
Tahoe Mommy says
Just bought some teething biscuits for LO at the natural foods store today. He liked it, so I’m looking for a homemade recipe to try. Yours looks simple enough, but I’m staying clear away from rice cereal. As rice can have high amounts of arsenic in it (depends on where it is grown, but the EPA has found brown rice products to have up to 3 times the level of arsenic that is considered safe for drinking water. Just trying to spread the word…
I would like to try this recipe with oatmeal cereal, apple sauce, and a wee bit of maple syrup.
Michelle says
Hey, how did your modified recipe turn out? I too am trying to stay away from rice cereal but scared to experiment with baking.
TyphanI says
Can I use oatmeal instead of rice cereal?
Jinnie says
Rice cereal? Nnnnnnnnnnnnope!
emily says
Can we use normal flour? Or does it have tone the whole wheat flour?
Kristy says
You can use normal!
Liza says
Have you ever made these with barley cereal? It’s what I have on hand now and wonder if it will work also. Thanks!
Kristy says
I haven’t but be worth trying!
Holly says
Hello! I just wanted to say that I’ve done these with Baby Gourmet’s “Ancient Grain Blend” cereal and they worked out fine! (For those who don’t want to use rice cereal)
Michelle says
I made these with organic baby oatmeal instead of the rice cereal and omitted the oil (because I forgot it). They came out way too hard!? Do you think it was the oatmeal or the missing oil that caused this? Even the dog had a hard time chewing them. :-
Kristy says
i’d say the oil! definitely needs it for the moisture.
Kelly says
Hi, i know this is a strange question but im wanting to make these for a good friend who has a teething 9 month old, and i don’t really know anything about ‘infant’ foods!
Infant rice cereal… Is this in a powdered form or….? How can i make this myself, i looked up recipes that just indicated ground brown rice but surely this needs to be cooked first? Thanks so much for your help!!
Kristy says
Infant rice cereal is in a powder form, yet. I’m not sure how to make it yourself htough…I’ve never done that!
Susanne says
Thanks Kristy for posting this. I have just baked them and they are already a success with my little one. This is third time lucky as I’ve tried two other recipes and they for reasons unknown to me just didn’t hit the spot with her. Thanks again.
Amanda Thomas says
Can I use a different fruit or vegetable and if so how much?
Danielle says
I was wondering how old you started your little one on these? My son is 4 and a half months and is gnawing on everything like your son was and is cranky. Was just curious if he would be okay using these? Thanks.
boysahoy says
I started at 4 month too!! I just made sure to sit by him and help, make sure he didn’t gag or choke or anything 🙂
Liesl says
I made these with quinoa flake cereal and oat flour and they turned out great. My 10 month old loved them!
boysahoy says
So glad they turned out with quinoa!! Great idea!!
Nadine says
Thanks so much for this! Just made them but didn’t have enough rice cereal, so I put 3/8 cups of rice cereal, 3/8 of ancient grains cereal and 1/4 cup of oatmeal. I know what a mix!! hahahh I also added a bit of nutmeg and they turned out great!!
Megan says
Thanks for the recipe. I’ve made it twice (and will again–for sure.)
Kristy {Boys Ahoy} says
You’re welcome!!
Shawna says
I didn’t read all the comments BUT, our baby daughter was very allergic to cinnamon. And peanut butter. And strawberries. There are also concerns about the arsenic in baby rice cereal. I’m going to try this with baby oatmeal. Looks good!
Brittney says
I tried these today. I added one extra banana and I dont use rice cereal but instead Ive always ground up organic brown rice and given that to my LO. They turned out a little harder than I expected, but I am going to try again on a lower temp. I think my oven is pretty strong. Thank you for sharing! Ive been really searching for a ggod receipe.
Kristy {Boys Ahoy} says
Thanks Brittney, hope they turn out better on the lower temp!
Robyn says
Can I leave out the coconut oil? Would that change anything? I don’t have any.
Kristy {Boys Ahoy} says
I’m not sure, I’ve never tried it without it. Let me know if it works Robyn!
Anna Wright says
I love this lovable love made biscuit 🙂
Liz says
Twice I’ve made these using 2 different types of wheat flour.. follow ingredients to a T. Both times they’re coming out spongey and doughy.. even tried putting them back in for another 5-10 mins.
Every recipe I have found online is giving me soft, inedible biscuits and I don’t know where I’m going wrong!
Lucky for me I have pet pigs to gobble up the disasters so its not a total waste of ingredients…can’t currently buy baby biscuits in shop either due to covid-19 lockdown and stocks being awfully low.
