This post brought to you by The Walmart Foundation. All opinions are 100% mine.
Did you know over 50 million Americans have no idea where their next meal will come from? Or that Springtime generally produces a decrease in food and charitable donations to food banks across the country.
I had no idea. And one of the main causes is unemployment.
Knowing this, makes me realize just how much I take food and the meals I get to enjoy and feed my family for granted.
To help bridge this Spring hunger gap, Wal-Mart is working with Feeding America and four of the country’s most recognizable food brands- ConAgra,General Mills, Kraft, and Kellog’s in a Nationwide Fighting Hunger Together Initiative.
Starting Monday, April 9th through April 30th Wal-Mart will be hosting a facebook campaign where fans can rally support for communities in need of hunger relief. You can vote among 200 communities with the highest unemployment rate as determined by the Department of Labor. Wal-mart will donate $2 million dollars to the 21 communities receiving the most support–$1 million to the winner, and $20 million to the 20 runner-ups.
Wal-Mart is giving US the opportunity to help! Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart. I will be voting for a community here in my home state, St. George, Utah. You can also go in-stores between April 9th-30th and participate by purchasing products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg’s, or donate meals to Feeding America and Action for Healthy Kids–both nonprofits fighting childhood hunger.
