My little brother has been serving a mission for our church for the last two years and he comes home today! So I’m in Colorado to greet him at the airport with my parents and then spending the rest of the week with my family and little brother (who’s actually not so little any more).
These cookies aren’t anything crazy, just simple Oatmeal M&M Cookies. But you guys, I’ve made them a handful of times over the last month and just can’t get enough of them.
I’m a sucker for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but the combination of oats and M&M’s is ten times better.
I bought a giant bag of M&M’s and feel like I can’t stop making these cookies until the bag is gone. Because eating absurd amounts of cookies is so much better than eating handfuls of M&M’s.
These are definitely best warm–because that’s when you get that crunchy outer shell and warm chocolate center of the M&M’s that just melts in your mouth with each bite.
And don’t even get me started on this dough…..
Oatmeal M&M Cookies
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter flavored Crisco, soft
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup flour
1 cup milk chocolate M&M’s
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350.
Cream Crisco and sugars together until smooth. Add egg and vanilla.
Slowly stir in baking soda, flour, and oats. Stir in M&M’s.
Chill dough for one hour before placing rounded tablespoons onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10 minutes and let cool slightly on sheet before transferring to a cookie rack.
**cookies will be flat if you don’t chill the dough

Love love love!! So glad you made these. They are one of my favorite cookies and I am planning to make them this weekend for a bake sale! You just got me even more excited. And yes, the dough is the bees knees. 🙂

I would be eating the dough by the spoonful! I love oatmeal cookies, especially those that have M&M’s in them!

Wow! M&M is the highlight. I would love to try this. It’s colorful and that what makes it more interesting. This will surely be the highlight later this evening for the dinner’s dessert.

These cookies are very good, I made a batch yesterday however I hard the hardest time getting the dough to keep shape with the cookie scoop or by hand even after chilling for one hour. Any idea what I may have done wrong? I did not use a mixer of any kind, just my spoon.

Julie–I’m sorry! Sounds like the dough was too dry and crumbly! Did the cookies taste dry?
Julie says
the cookies were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. maybe I need new flour? maybe a splash of milk? maybe next time I’ll use the hand mixer. They were good but just wouldn’t keep together for me to form a decent shape.

I don’t normally like oatmeal cookies, but I could probably eat these. I love M&M cookies!
