I’m not sure I need to say much about this bread here…
Other than tell you, you simply must make it.
I think you understand why, right? It’s hands down the best cheesy, puffy, hot and buttery bread I’ve eaten. Had I not made it for a dinner with friends I would have eaten the entire loaf–the second it came out of the oven.
Nothing wrong with that though. After all, I am eating for two;) And this baby likes bread.
The instructions are kind of lengthy and it takes some time to make, but it’s really not hard and so worth it.
Cheesy Puff Pull Apart Bread
Ingredients
1 3/4 c flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tbsp sugar
2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup water
2 eggs
12 ounces cheddar cheese (I used medium cheddar)
1/4 cup butter, melted
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine once cup of all purpose flour, the wheat flour, sugar, yeast, and salt together.
In a saucepan, heat 1/4 cup butter and the milk until butter is melted. Set aside for a minute then add the 1/4 cup water.
Add milk + butter mixture to the flour mixture and stir to combine (or use your dough hook). My dough was kind of lumpy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing each well until combined.
Using your hands, mix in 8 ounces of shredded cheese. Lastly, add the remaining 3/4 cup flour and knead together with your hands until evenly incorporated.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and place in a warm place to rise for one hour. After one hour, punch the dough down then place on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough into a 12 X 12 in square. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Brush the dough with the melted butter and sprinkle with remaining 4 ounces of cheese. Using a pizza cutter, slice the dough into 6 strips from top to bottom. Again, they don’t have to be perfect. Carefully stack each of the strips on top of each other and cut into 5 or 6 pieces-whichever you can get. (picture above)
Lay the squares into a greased and floured 9 X 5 loaf pan, placing cut side down. It was a tight squeeze for me, but I kind of squished them in. Cover with a towel and let rise for another hour.
Preheat oven to 350 and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top of the bread is golden brown.

I just tried this, and while I can appreciate it, it wasn’t for me. ๐ I may try tweaking it a bit, I prefer a firmer bread. Perhaps more flour? Less butter? lol I don’t know, but I’m going to play with it.
