Challah Bread French Toast Skewers made with challah bread, strawberries and with fresh whipped cream! A fun way to serve breakfast or brunch to family or friends!
We really love our slow, Sunday mornings! It’s the one day of the week we don’t wake up early and rush out the door- to the gym, to school, soccer games, etc. The boys might wake up early as usual, but they let Brett and I roll out of bed around 7:30 or 8 and it’s heavenly you guys! Once I roll out of bed the boys are usually pretty hungry (even though they’ve been fending for themselves for the last hour or two), so I like to make something a little more special than our usual weekday breakfasts…..
Like Challah Bread French Toast Skewers with Strawberries and Fresh Whipped Cream! The secret to this goodness is using challah bread. It’s thick, soft and fluffy (and slightly sweet) and makes the best french toast ever! Skewer big chunks of it up for a fun way to serve to kids or for a brunch!
For the french toast, I made a simple dredge using Horizon Organic milk, eggs, a splash of vanilla and cinnamon. After I cut the challah bread into large cubes I let it soak for a good minutes in the milk and egg mixture. Really let it soak up that liquid to make really flavorful, french toast.
Then just cook the pieces in a large pan of melted butter, turning the pieces until all the edges are golden and slightly crispy! Skewer the french toast pieces alternately with your choice of fresh berry (we love strawberries). And dip those babies in freshly whipped, Horizon Organic heavy whipping cream.
We’ve been working with Horizon Organic this year, making recipes with our favorite products! We really do love everything they offer….all dairy products, mac n cheese, snack crackers….but we consistently buy Horizon Organic Milk. Knowing I wanted fresh whipped cream for these french toast skewers, I picked up some of their Organic Heavy Whipping Cream too! I love that their products are all made with kids’ health in mind! So even though this is a bit of a treat for breakfast I feed good knowing I’m using good quality, organic ingredients + products. for my kiddos.
These skewers really just make for a fun presentation, but once your kiddos are ready to eat you can just slide it all off onto their plate and let them eat it with a fork, especially if they want to add maple syrup!
But wouldn’t the skewers be fun for a large brunch, baby shower or party?

3 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups strawberries, stems removed and cut in half

First make the whipping cream:
Chill a medium bowl in the freezer for 20 minutes, then pour the heavy cream, 1 tbs sugar, and a splash of vanilla into the bowl and beat on high until medium peaks form. Place in the fridge while you make the french toast skewers.
Make the French Toast Skewers:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon.
Soak the pieces of challah bread in the milk and egg mixture for a few minutes, making sure all sides are saturated with liquid. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1-2 tbs of butter in it.
Once butter is melted and skillet is hot, add the cubes of challah. Cook for several minutes, flipping until all sides are golden and slightly crisp. Remove from the pan and place on a plate.
Skewer the cubes of french toast alternately with a sliced strawberry (about three of each to each skewer). Serve with fresh whipped cream and maple syrup if desired!
